N2 - A new layered coordination polymer of the formula [Cd2(dmf)3(fdc)2] (dmf = N,N-dimethylformamide, H2fdc = 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid) was synthesized upon heating a mixture of cadmium(II) nitrate tetrahydrate, 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid, and urotropin in N,N-dimethylformamide. The colorless crystals obtained were characterized by IR spectroscopy, single crystal and powder X-ray crystallography, elemental and thermal analyses. The compound was found to possesses a layered structure and exhibits strong solid-state photoluminescence.
