N2 - In this work, a series of coordination polymers based on the [{Mo6I8}(CN)6]2− cluster units coordinated by silver phosphine complexes were studied. Three new polymeric compounds, [{Ag2(dppe)3}{Mo6I8}(CN)6] (1), [{Ag2(dppe)2}{Mo6I8}(CN)6] (2), and [{Ag2(dppp)2}{Mo6I8}(CN)6] (3), where dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane and dppp = 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane, were synthesized solvothermally, displaying chain (1 and 2) and layered (3) structures. All compounds exhibit high hydrolytic and thermal stability. At room temperature, their photoluminescence quantum yields are 0.27, 0.19, and 0.28, with corresponding X-ray-excited luminescence light yields of 13 360, 9843, and 22 265 ph per MeV for 1–3, respectively. Dispersing the polymers in ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) yielded composite materials suitable for use as X-ray scintillation screens, with enhanced X-ray emission efficiency (up to 30 348 ph per MeV) and spatial resolution (up to 7.5 line pairs per mm). Quantum-chemical calculations correlate the luminescence properties with structural features, specifically the presence of argentophilic contacts. The absence of such contacts appears to promote charge transfer, thereby enhancing emission. This combination of structural variation and composite engineering enabled the development of new bright broadband red/NIR scintillators based on the [{Mo6I8}(CN)6]2− cluster.
