N2 - Annulation of the two pyrimidine rings with anthraquinone through the simple condensation of the 1,5-diiodoanthraquinone with guanidine was employed to build 1,3,7,9-tetraazaperylene framework functionalized by NH2, C=O, aliphatic and alkoxy-groups. The properties of the synthesized 1,3,7,9-tetraazaperylenes were studied by cyclic voltammetry, optical and luminescence spectroscopy and DFT-calculations. Remarkably, the vacuum-deposited thin film of 1,3,7,9-tetraazaperylene functionalized by 2-ethylhexyloxy groups demonstrated photoluminescence quantum yield as high as 55%, which is even higher than that for toluene solution (33%).
