N2 - The article is devoted to the study of the influence of the natural resources located in the regions of Russia on the level of socio-economic and innovative development. At the first stage of the study, a cluster analysis was applied to the database of indicators of the level of extraction specialization in the regions of Russia. During the next stage of the study, hypotheses on the connection between socio-economic indicators and specialization of the region in extractive industries were tested via multifactor regressions. Positive dependence of socio-economic variables on resource specialization variables with a high level of significance was revealed. However, most of Russia's resource regions have low level of innovative production, which can have a negative influence on country's economic growths.
