N2 - We report on investigation of dynamic grating (DG) evolution in an Yb-doped self-sweeping fiber laser in the absence of pumping radiation. The DG is recorded in the laser active medium by the laser radiation itself and is responsible for observed frequency self-sweeping effect. Results of the investigation show that the lifetime is about 1 ms, which is in a good agreement with the lifetime of upper level in ytterbium.
