N2 - Rheumatoid arthritis is a common rheumatic disease, characterized by erosive joint damage and destruction of internal organs. Chronic inflammation, malnutrition, physical disability, comorbid conditions, the use of steroids and biologics may also affect the body composition in patients with RA and lead to rheumatoid cachexia.Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to evaluate body composition in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.Materials and methods: Forty five women over 18 years of age with RA verified based on the 2010 ACR/EULAR criteria were included. The median age of patients was 54 years [45; 61] with a disease duration of 11 years [7; 20]. Patients with moderate disease activity prevailed (DAS28 4.40 [4.07; 5.03]).Results: The median AMI was 6.4 [5.5; 7.3]. Sarcopenia, assessed based on AMI, was detected in 16 (35.6%) patients. Patients with sarcopenia were younger (p = 0.044). They had a predominantly normal BMI (p = 0.001) and had a decrease in the percentage of androgynous adipose tissue (p=0,007). After excluding the total body mass, an inverse relationship was revealed between the AMM and CRP (rs=-0,524; p=0.009), By calculating partial correlations, excluding the total body mass, an inverse relationship was revealed between the AMM and CRP (rs=-0,524; p=0.009), TG (rs=-0.523; p=0.009) and LDL (rs=-0.421; p=0.01). Sarcopenia was more common in patients receiving sulfasalazine (p=0.29) and prednisolone (p=0.42).Conclusions: Sarcopenia was more common revealed in young patients with rheumatoid arthritis with normal body weight. SP was associated with taken of prednisolone and sulfasalazine.
