abstract = "Most of simple oxalates of late d-elements decompose to form highly dispersed metal, and this property can be transferred to double oxalates. In this case, a bimetallic nanoalloy could be expected as a thermolysis product, which may be useful in catalytic applications. The introduction of other metals into Ir can improve the effectiveness of Ir-based catalysts and decrease the Ir loading. A novel double oxalate of Co(II) and Ir(III) crystallizes as a trinuclear [Co(H2O)2(μ-H2O)2{Ir(C2O4)2(H2O)2}2] ([CoIr]). It decomposes to nanoalloy in both reductive (H2) and inert (He) atmospheres at a relatively low temperature (300 °C). The high solubility of the precursor allowed to impregnate the metals onto electroconductive carbon black at a content of 20 wt% using the freeze-drying approach. The prepared catalyst demonstrates high activity in the oxygen electroreduction reaction in an alkaline electrolyte, 3.9 mA·cm−2, that is superior to the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C catalyst, 3.1 mA·cm−2.",
