N2 - Vladimir A. Bashilov, Doctor of History and a long-term researcher at the Institute of Archaeology RAS, is one of the few Russian scholars (and for some time the only one) specializing in the archaeology and prehistory of South America and, in particular, the Central Andes. Having begun his scientific career in the study of Scythian archaeology, V.A. Bashilov changed his specialization to the archaeology of Peru and Bolivia in the 1960s. Later, in the 1970s and 1980s, he began to develop actively V.G. Childe’s concept of the “Neolithic Revolution” as applied to the Central Andes. This article shows the dynamics of V.A. Bashilov’s views on this problem, the significant modifications in his concept in the 1970s and 1980s that eventually evolved into the final version published at the end of the 20th century. In addition, the authors consider the reception of V.A. Bashilov’s views on Andean archaeology and the specifics in the use of the term “Neolithic” and its derivatives in the archaeology of South America.
