N2 - We have investigated the effect of mutations in the peanut gene on somatic and germ line cell division. The mutations are shown to cause abnormal cytokinesis and chromosome segregation in somatic cells and result in different types of ploidy abnormalities. In contrast, germ cell division is not affected in these mutants. We conclude that the peanut gene has different functions in somatic and germ line cell division.
