N2 - Berberine is a phytogenic isoquinoline alkaloid which demonstrates several pharmacological effects, including a hypoglycemic effect. Its medical use is limited by its very low bioavailability. Synthesizing new berberine derivatives might help in overcoming this problem. In this work, we report on the synthesis and biological evaluation of a novel berberine 9-O-derivative. At an oral dose of 25 mg/kg, the compound demonstrated hypoglycemic activity in an oral glucose tolerance test performed using C57BL/6 mice.
