N2 - In this contribution, we give a brief overview of theoretical approaches to diffusion-influenced reactions, focusing on non-stationary (non-Markovian) effects in chemical kinetics. We discuss the origin of such effects and their manifestations. We also introduce the idea of “encounter theory”, an approach that treats the reacting system as a “gas” of reactants diluted in a chemically inert solvent, and discuss the variants of this theory — known as integral encounter theory and modified encounter theory
