abstract = "In this work, we propose an approach to modifying g-C3N4 with Ni-containing precursors – the organonickel σ-complex [NiBr(Pmp)(bpy)], where Pmp – 2,3,4,5,6-pentamethylphenyl, bpy – 2,2′-bipyridine, and nickel dibromide complex [NiBr2(bpy)2]. The resulting photocatalysts were studied in photocatalytic CO2 reduction under visible light (λ = 410 nm). The nature of σ-bound to nickel centre aromatic group was found to have a crucial influence on the properties and catalytic activity of the resulting photocatalysts. The most active photocatalyst, [NiBr(Pmp)(bpy)]/g-C3N4 (0.5 wt% Ni), provided a total CO2 reduction rate of about 12 μmol g−1 h−1, with CO being the main reaction product. It was established that modification of g-C3N4 with [NiBr(Pmp)(bpy)] complex leads to the formation of dispersed Ni-containing surface centers that facilitate the separation and transfer of photogenerated charges. The obtained results demonstrate the potential of using organonickel complexes as cocatalyst precursors for the targeted modification of g-C3N4 in photocatalytic CO2 reduction.",
