abstract = "The article raises the problems existing in the regions of Russia related to the management of municipal solid waste (MSW). The study noted that despite the ongoing changes, the situation in many regions of the country remains difficult and close to critical. Separately, the research highlighted need for high-quality tools, which allows modeling the impact of various changes in the operation of regional MSW management systems on the way to achieving environmental and economic efficiency. Authors provided a review of the approaches to the creation of such tools existing in the modern literature as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the presented models. The article contains a detailed description of the model of the regional MSW management system developed by the authors. The study confirmed the consistency of the approach by calculations on the example of the Novosibirsk region. Authors carried out modeling within the framework of various potential scenarios for the development of the MSW management system in the region with conclusions and recommendations made regarding the development vectors of the Novosibirsk Region in MSW management.",
