N2 - This paper presents the main contributions of a number of academic institutions in Novosibirk to the field of historical studies in the first two decades of the 21st century. The author pays primary attention to monographs and sources published by scholars from the Institute of History of the Siberian the branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk State University and Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University. The wide range of themes and problems that they cover, concerning Russian and Siberian history from the 16th to the 20th century, demonstrates that Novosibirsk remains one of the main centers of historical studies in Russia nowadays. Different aspects of political, economic, social and cultural history, studied by Novosibirsk scholars, allow us to revise a number of concepts relating to Siberia’s place under Russian state power, its population, regional development and its specific tendencies during the last few centuries. Although the main field of interest for Novosibirsk historians is the 20th century, the Soviet period, there are also well-known specialists working on the problems of the 17th and 18th centuries.
