Profile Information

Research and Education Center (REC) “Molecular Design and Ecologically Safe Technologies” is one of the first research units of the Novosibirsk State University. It was founded in 2001 supported by a grant from the Program “Basic Research for High Education”, which was sponsored by Russian Ministry of Science and Education, CRDF and Siberian Division of Russian Academy of Science. One of the main features of the research in REC is its cross-disciplinarity. Research team includes not only members from different Departments of the same Faculty of Sciences, but also from different Faculties (mainly, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Geosciences). Another feature of research in REC is that it does not dublicate research at the institutes of Russian Academy of Sciences but complements it. This is possible since REC has its own scientific equipment, which includes also unique instruments which are not available elsewhere not only in Novosibirsk, but also in Russia.
In general, research field of REC can be defined as physics and chemistry of condensed matter with applications in various fields, including not only chemistry and physics, but also archeology, life sciences, planetary sciences. One of the main research directions is studying solid compounds, materials and minerals in situ and operando, using both laboratory instruments and synchrotron radiation and neutrons
