Profile Information

Basic research in 2019 within the framework of this project (code No. 33.5677.2017 / БЧ) had archaeology, medieval and later history, historical demography of Siberia and adjacent territories of Central Asia as its object. The goal and main tasks of the work are the reconstruction of the ethnocultural development features of this region in the indicated periods, including on the basis of sources obtained as a result of independent field archaeological research. Much attention was paid to issues of source study, in particular, verification of materials obtained by other authors. The work was carried out in close contact with the team of the joint scientific and educational center of NSU and IAET SB RAS “Archaeology and Ethnography of North Asia” (headed by Academician V. I. Molodin), and other research teams both in Russia and abroad.
Archaeology and historical demography has resulted in new sources. Their analysis made it possible to solve the problems posed, namely, to reveal the general and the special in the ethnocultural and demographic development of the peoples of Siberia in the Middle Ages and the New Age, and to determine the nature of contacts with the population of neighboring territories. The interpretation of a significant amount of heterogeneous materials on the history of military affairs (including fortification) made it possible to characterize the compositions, chronology and historical and cultural affiliation of a number of weapon kits, as well as features of defense architecture in the region. The main causes and directions of migrations of the indigenous inhabitants of Siberia at the indicated time have been identified; it is shown that the cultures of most ethnic groups were highly mobile, resulting in fluctuations in numbers due to shifts, often to very distant territories (especially Buryats, Tungus and Yakuts).
